Victor W. RodwellProfessor Emeritus I retired from the Biochemistry faculty in 2004, and thus no longer accept students or visitors. |

As an Emeritus Professor, I continue to collaborate with Prof. Cynthia Stauffacher of Purdue's Department of Biological Sciences, with investigators at Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, and with Prof. Autumn Sutherlin of the Department of Chemistry at Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas. Our collaborations involve the enzymes of the mevalonate pathway of the bacterial pathogen Enterococcus faecalis: HMG-CoA synthase, HMG-CoA reductase, mevalonate kinase, phosphomevalonate kinase, mevalonate diphosphate kinase decarboxylase, and isopentenyl diphosphate isomerase. Our interests encompass the solution of 3-D structures by X-ray crystallography, the identification of aminoacyl residues that function in catalysis, substrate and inhibitor recognition, or control of enzyme activity, and their application to the possible development of a new class of antiobiotics.
