PEOPLE
Rossie Research Group - 2006
Sandra Rossie
I received my bachelor's degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and my Ph.D. in Pharmacological
and Physiological Sciences from The University of Chicago. I did my postdoctoral training investigating ion channel
phosphorylation with Dr. William Catterall in the Department of Pharmacology at The University of Washington in
Seattle. I then spent several years as an assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy at The University of Arizona
in Tucson before coming to Purdue. Here at Purdue, my interests in signaling pathways
and
reversible phosphorylation
led to my present research focus on protein phosphatase 5.

My project involves validating putative protein partners for PP5 from a yeast two hybrid screen. I also help train students, collaborate with Dr Rossie and everyone else in the lab on their projects, and generally make sure the lab is running smoothly. I enjoy working in this lab because I learn new things constantly while being able to help others.

Anindo Chatterjee

Born and brought up in India, I did my Bachelors in Microbiology with Chemistry and Zoology as minors. For my Masters in Medical Biochemistry I was fortunate to train at one of the best medical schools, Kasturba Medical College under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Now here at the Rossie lab it has been a learning curve and I am training hard
to be the best someday, perhaps get a Nobel Prize ☺☺ hahahahaha!!!! I work on finding potential partners of PP5, which keeps escaping whenever anyone draws close. I am luring them with a lot of attention, hard work and perseverance; hope I get lucky down the line. When I am not working I am either driving my car in circles or watching TV until I fall asleep. I love to paint and play my guitar but that hardly happens given my tight schedule. Sooner or later I plan to have my own exhibition and a live performance, all potential scientists are welcome!!After I am done here with my PhD, I plan to get back to a medical school once again, Johns Hopkins or Harvard. Ahhh high thoughts, but I want to merge all my training at medical and graduate schools and be the avenger of evil ☺☺ Life at Rossie lab is great, have wonderful colleagues and the work environment is extremely congenial for professional growth. You might consider joining us!!

Ayesha Elias
Originally from Bangladesh, I grew up in the middle-east before embarking on a journey across the world to obtain my Bachelors in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, TN. Now in the Rossie lab, I am screening
for PP5 protein partners using biochemical and proteomic techniques.
In my free time, I like to read,
visit new places
and meet new people.

Hemalatha Jayachandran
Hi! My name is Hema and I am from India. I work on determining the role of PP5 in cell stress signaling pathways.
I like to play tennis & baddy for relaxation.

Efrain Sanchez
Hi everyone! My name is Efrain Sanchez-Ortiz. I am from Juncos, Puerto Rico. Before coming to Purdue University to pursue a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, I did my undergraduate education in Microbiology at The University of Puerto Rico-Humacao Campus. Currently, I am examining the role of PP5 in neuronal signaling pathways. I really enjoy baseball. Actually, I play in a softball team composed of other Puerto Rican graduate students.Hopefully, upon completion of my graduate studies, I will become an academic research scientist and return to my country and contribute to
the development and growth of my people in Puerto Rico.
