So you want to CODO to Biochemistry...

Before you begin the CODO (Change of Degree Objective) process, it is important to understand what is required to graduate with a degree in Biochemistry. Spend some time investigating our major. Our website is a good place to start. You will want to understand the required curriculum. You will notice our major requires calculus, biology, chemistry, and of course, biochemistry. Typically, students who do not have a sufficient background in these subjects, or who have not done well in previous coursework incorporating these subjects, will not be successful as Biochemistry majors. In addition, all Biochemistry students must do a capstone research project. This requires students to work on an independent project with a faculty member, then present their work to the department before graduation.

If you feel that Biochemistry is the right major for you, begin the CODO process:

  • Check to be sure you meet the minimum requirements to CODO to the College of Agriculture (12 credits at Purdue with a 2.00 GPA)
  • Schedule a meeting with the Biochemistry Option Representative, Joe Ogas (ogas@purdue.edu), to go over your academic record and to outline a tentative plan of study as a Biochemistry major.
  • Request CODO papers (Form 340) at the Registrar’s Office (Hovde Hall Room 45 or the Kiosk outside Room 45) for immediate pickup, or from SSINFO (Academic, CODO Papers Request) for pickup after 3 pm the next day.
  • Fill in your name and PUID and Item 1 on both copies of the CODO papers.
  • Take both copies of the CODO papers to your CURRENT college/school.
  • Take both copies of the CODO papers to the advising office of your NEW college/school (College of Agriculture - Dr. Allan D. Goecker, 127 AGAD (49-48481)). If you meet the requirements, Dr. Goecker will complete the forms in the following manner:
    • review record and delete courses where appropriate
    • calculate total number of hours for which credit toward graduation has been received
    • check correct classification
    • complete Items 3, 4, and 5, on the CODO papers
  • Sign your name at the bottom of both copies (Item 6) to indicate your approval of the CODO process and your understanding of how your credits will transfer.
  • One copy of your CODO papers will be sent or carried to the Registrar’s office for computer entry.
  • After your CODO papers are processed in the Office of the Registrar, you are officially in your new college/school.
  • NOTE: CODOing cannot save a student from being placed on drop status.
