What will your next step be?
Will you be searching for a job or furthering your education? Do you need to prepare a resume and buy a suit or study up for the GREs or MCATs? Do you have faculty and professionals in the field to write letters of reference for you?
Entering the workforce?
Applying for Vet School at Purdue?
Applying for Medical School?
- Be sure you will meet all the pre-medicine course requirements (vary by school).
- Be able to demonstrate your sincere interest in health care by observing/shadowing a physician and performing service/volunteer activities related to medicine.
- Get advice from the Office of Health Professions Advising.
- Take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).
- Apply early! Most schools admit on a rolling basis, meaning you have a better chance of getting in the sooner you apply. Plan to submit your application by June-August of the year before you want to enter medical school. (Example - apply in July 2008 for fall 2009). Most medical schools use the AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service).
Applying for Graduate School?
- Investigate web sites of universities with graduate programs that interest you. Programs with rotations are generally preferable, and as a rule of thumb the number of faculty that you are interested in working with should be at least equal to the number of rotations.
- Take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
- Submit your application by the deadline (varies by school).
